The HSE beauty purchasing team at "Cosmoprof" in Bologna
From March 14-18, the Italian city of Bologna was firmly in the hands of cosmetics specialists. Cosmoprof is the largest beauty trade fair in Europe and therefore also a fixed date on the calendar of the beauty products purchasing team at HSE.
We asked Carolin Gentz, Associate Brand & Product Manager in Beauty Purchasing at HSE and person responsible for private brands, why Cosmoprof is so important and what actually happens there.
What is Cosmoprof?
Cosmoprof is a gigantic trade fair, a gathering of thousands of suppliers, brands, manufacturers, and distributors. Brands and producers from all over the world are represented in 40 halls. Whether decorative cosmetics, care products, or the latest tools and gadgets: at Cosmoprof you can find out what the beauty trends and innovations of the coming years will be.
Why is this trade fair so important?
As Brand & Product Manager at Beauty Purchasing, these trade fair visits are very important: Not only do we find out what's trending and where the beauty market is headed, we also meet our suppliers in person, cultivate contacts, and have meetings with potential new business partners. We usually visit trade fairs like Cosmoprof in small teams, so we can optimally split up the many halls, offers, and meetings.
What happens in these meetings?
There are countless meetings in order for the manufacturers to introduce the products that they want HSE to sell. Under certain circumstances, existing brands may become exclusive to us. If there are any prototypes and product ideas that we find interesting, we can establish completely new in-house brands for HSE or further develop existing own brands with the suppliers and manufacturers.
Talking in person and receiving input at trade fairs like these allows us to optimally expand our range of beauty products.
What were this year's beauty trends?
Natural cosmetics continues to be a major topic. With the Melanie Wenzel brand, which HSE is launching in May, we can expand our range of products in this area. Skin defense is also a big trend on the beauty market. Many products are designed to protect against harmful environmental influences, such as car exhausts or the screen light – so-called "blue light" – of smartphones etc.
What other trade fairs does the HSE purchasing team visit?
In addition to Bologna, we also visit many other national and international beauty fairs, such as Make-Up in Paris or Cosmoprof in Las Vegas and Shanghai.
